Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Awards CP Unlimited $1M Grant to Grow Innovative Wheelchair Evaluation Clinics in New York
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation sustained their support of CP Unlimited with a $1M grant to expand the Agency’s transformative and complimentary wheelchair evaluation, maintenance, and cleaning clinics throughout New York State.g
The $1M contribution empowers CP Unlimited’s to offer wheelchair clinics that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans, and others use their wheelchairs with greater comfort, safety, and reliability.
This allows CPU’s trained technicians the opportunity to inspect and calculate how best to serve people who use wheelchairs; this can mean a simple repair to full replacement of their chair to help an individual reach new levels of mobility and engagement. In addition, a regular series of wheelchair clinics provides recurring opportunities to cleanse and sanitize up to 40 chairs at a time. The funding will also permit CP to continue servicing power wheelchair users and provide a train-the-trainer program for I/DD partners statewide.
The Foundation was inspired and encouraged by the ongoing popularity and reach of the wheelchair clinics: Since 2021, CP Unlimited has reached more than 5,000 individuals while growing the area of coverage from the five boroughs northward to the Hudson Valley and expanding the audience through senior homes, events by local politicians, and community health fairs.g
“We are grateful to the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for their partnership,” said Joseph M. Pancari, President & CEO of CP Unlimited. “Their continued support makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of many people who use wheelchairs and has been a motivating experience for the CPU team as they perform this vital work in neighborhoods across New York State.”g
