June Wheelchair Clinic Brings Mobility and Inspiration
A beautiful day outside greeted our Rehabilitation Team in Jamaica, Queens as we worked on nearly a dozen wheelchairs at CP Unlimited’s free, monthly wheelchair clinic.
The clinic took on repairs of all sizes, on chairs of all types, as they labored in the sunshine getting everything perfect for people who use wheelchairs across Queens. The diversity of repairs mirrored the variations in wheelchairs, from activity chairs, strollers, racing chairs, and push chairs, as our technicians replaced arm pads, belts, and leg rests to ensure well-being in all environments.
Most notable was the work performed on the racing wheelchair of Table Tennis Para-Olympian Mr. Ahmed (seated to the left in the main photo) who had a potentially troubling flaw that was making the chair tip backwards as he negotiated the city streets. By increasing the wheelbase and replacing an axle, Ahmed’s chair is now safer and better fitted to his frame. This will allow him to navigate the city with a much higher degree of comfort and security.
As always, CP is honored to perform this work as it is central to our mission to help people with disabilities achieve fulfilling lives.
