An Expanded Grant from Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation increased their annual grant to CP Unlimited by 50 percent with the goal of expanding the Agency’s transformative and complimentary wheelchair maintenance and cleaning clinics and training throughout New York State.
The $1.5M contribution will empower CP Unlimited’s Rehabilitation Department to offer more frequent and mobile wheelchair clinics that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans, and others use their chairs with greater comfort, safety, and reliability. The increased funding will also permit CP to service power wheelchair users, purchase an additional wheelchair cleaning machine for our Nassau affiliate, and launch a train-the-trainer program for I/DD partners statewide.
Each session allows CP’s trained technicians the opportunity to cleanse, sanitize, and fix areas of wear and tear; in several instances, the organization has replaced or upgraded a chair entirely to help an individual reach new levels of mobility and engagement. The Foundation was encouraged by the popularity and reach of the wheelchair clinics in 2023: the Agency originally projected we would be able to reach 250 people who use wheelchairs, but we were able to impact over 1,500 people while growing the area of coverage from the five boroughs northward to the Hudson Valley and expanding the audience through senior homes and community health fairs.
