Patrick Emproto Book Club Celebrates Helping Over 500 Families
The Patrick Emproto book club is an integral part of our Adult Education offerings, helping persons supported by the Agency learn to read and develop a love of literature. Named for one of its founding members and enthusiastic participants, the book club has fostered optimism, discovery, and curiosity for many here at CP Unlimited and is taught and administered by Melissa D’Accordo, Curriculum and Training Specialist.
Every December, the participants organize a book drive for families on Staten Island (since broadened to New York City) and collect funds to purchase children’s books and games for locals in need. Now in its fifth year, the Patrick Emproto Book Drive has helped over 500 families grow their personal libraries and reading engagement.
This year, the club collected funds from the CPU network for migrant families in New York City. They were proud to provide direct assistance to over 70 families with books, games, pajamas, and warm winter clothing! These were distributed at a fun pizza party program at CPU’s Central Office on December 17.
Club members and families enjoyed caroling, a read-aloud, and other holiday activities as everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and room full of joy.
