Photo Club Member Lee Jarvis Wins Award
There are a variety of clubs and activities on offer in CP Day Habilitation programs, but none are more popular than the West Farms Photo Works and Progressive Visions Photo Club. Comprised of talented and creative amateur photographers, the images they shoot and develop themselves are a mirror of their experiences as people with I/DD achieving fulfilling lives.
While the groups have had many previous successes, including exhibitions at galleries across New York City such as Positive Exposure 109 operated by Rick Guidotti, we can also now mark another award from the Voice! Art Show to the list. The show, held every year at the Martin Mullen Gallery at SUNY Oneonta and sponsored by Arc Otsego, was an opportunity to see a variety of talented submissions from across New York State. Photographer Lee Jarvis received the third-place award for his shot of fellow photo club members reflected in the cool chrome of a parked vehicle. This is the second time Lee has exhibited his work in a gallery, and his first award.
Said the winner himself, “I’m happy to receive this award and happy to have this $200 check in my hand. I’m happy and grateful and love being in this photo class.” In addition to winning the award, Lee’s photo is being purchased. And in a fun tidbit, his photo also hangs at CP Unlimited’s Central Office, just outside President Joseph M. Pancari’s office (for those that visit and want to see a copy!).
“Lee is a very talented photographer who loves looking for interesting subject matter to photograph both in the West Farms neighborhood [of The Bronx], and in studio sessions held at the West Farms Center. He has been participating in the West Farms Photo Works program since 2017. I’m very proud of him, and so are his classmates at West Farms Photo Works,” said Jim Interlicchio, Photo Club Director and Founder.
