VOTIVATING: Motivating People to Vote Across the USA
CP Unlimited has partnered with KIBU, a virtual online education platform for persons with disabilities, to share expertise and infuse the growing network of live and pre-recorded classes with additional resources.
Building on an existing course to help viewers exercise their civic responsibility, CP Unlimited worked with KIBU to create an updated, more expansive offering that highlighted the process of voting and disability tools to utilize, additional voting considerations for persons with disabilities, online resources, and more.
On hand were self-advocates Lisa Marie C. and Diego O. from the CP network. Each delivered the instructions with both enthusiasm and sensitivity to its intended audience.
Tips included:
Join or form a voting buddy system
Bring your own magnifier or assistive devices, as well as way to mark your ballot
Use curbside voting
“The filming was amazing and I had a blast doing it. It has been my pleasure to help people with disabilities learn how to vote. I would love to do more stuff with KIBU,” said Lisa Marie C.
Recording the course at CP’s newest space in Fishkill, New York, Lisa outlined the steps to successful voting and making ones voice heard locally and nationally, while Diego talked about his lived experience as the motivation behind the “Traveling with Dignity” Act which seeks to mandate height-adjustable adult changing tables in New York State.
We look forward to helping people with disabilities access their voting options nationwide and take advantage of every opportunity to achieve a fulfilling- and representative- life.
